Bumble is one of the most popular dating apps out there. It’s got some up-and-down cred, but overall it’s a fan favorite and it’s full of ever-lasting love stories.

Whether you’re new to online dating or you have experience, you’re faced with the task of writing your profile.

The outcome of your online dating experience starts with your online dating profile. It starts with the conversations you provoke.

The goal of online dating is to get offline. The goal of your profiles is to get conversations started.

My Profile Writing Strategies

When I write online dating profiles I consider these strategies:

  • Using curiosity as a seduction tactic
  • Bold statements
  • Creating visuals and imagined experiences

My goal is to cover these three bases:

  • Personality/Values driven statements
  • Hobbies/Interests/Passions
  • Who/What you are looking for

One of the most important things to remember is to write about topics that you love to talk about. If you get people to ask you questions about your favorite things then they get to see you in your best light.

For my clients, I use an extensive questionnaire to evoke ideas, perspectives and visions.

Also included in my thought process is formatting and creating something that is easy to read and comprehend.

As a whole, Bumble keeps things short and sweet. However, even with limited character space a little bit can go a long way. All of my strategies can be achieved in a 300-character limit and choosing two or three prompts.

These Are Some Of My Favorite Bumble Prompts

After Work You Can Find Me

This prompt gives you a chance to talk about the things you love doing outside of your career. What passions and interests do you have when you’re not working?

After Work You Can Find Me
I like a good mix of being out and about and simply relaxing at home. There’s never an excuse to be bored in LA! I enjoy finding new places to eat/drink, see what events are going on around town or game night at the arcade or bowling alley.

After Work You Can Find Me
Outside! I will always rather be outside: Camping, hiking and fishing among my faves. And, I won’t say no to trying new things.

After Work You Can Find Me
Most often I’ll be busy and active. I love taking my dogs for long hikes, going for bike rides, golfing and playing tennis. Paddle boarding and pickleball are new sports I’m interested in.

I Get Way Too Excited About

Using this prompt is a great way to express future aspirations, most favorite hobbies and passions or to reveal a quirky cute thing about yourself.

I Get Way Too Excited About
Being at a NY Giants games, screaming alongside 80K fans. Overall, I enjoy all kinds of sporting events.

I Get Way Too Excited About
Making a mess in the kitchen when I cook my famous tacos.

I Get Way Too Excited About
My next luxury vacation. Traveling is one of my favorite ways to learn about the world and see life from new perspectives.

I Get Way Too Excited About
Shopping for new bathing suits at the beginning of every summer. Once it’s 75 degrees, I’m all about the outdoors.

I’m Known For

Like the Hinge prompt, My Greatest Strength, this prompt gives you an opportunity to be bold and put yourself out there. Be proud of your favorite parts about yourself.

I’m Known For
I like to tinker and try my hand at fixing things, but I might not always be successful. Sometimes for me, DIY is Destroy It Yourself.

I’m Known For
My calm-natured personality and my knack for problem solving. I have a positive outlook on life and I don’t sweat the small stuff.

I’m Known For
Staying focused on my goals, being calm-natured and reliable.

I’m Known For
Being goal-oriented and challenging myself. I’m proud of my accomplishments and I keep my eye on new ones.

Bringing It All Together

One of the biggest complaints I hear people mention is how so many people don’t bother writing anything at all. Think of all the missed opportunities for conversation starting.

I heard a story from a woman who met her current boyfriend “out in the wild.” After she got to know him, she had him show her the profile he had been using online and discovered he was one of the people who writes stuff like, “if you want to know, just ask.”

She laughed and told him that she never would have swiped right.

This guy almost missed out!

Points scored for IRL, but don’t forget online dating opens up the world in other ways. Those opportunities are ineffective if conversations fail to happen.
